Following the recent success and development of the Rugby Ambulatory Orthopaedic Service (RAOS) at the Hospital of St Cross, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is currently looking to recruit a second ACP to work alongside the existing senior team to provide care to both our Elective and Trauma inpatients on Cedar Ward.
The Hospital of st Cross is situated on the Outskirts of Rugby Town itself and is part of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
Cedar ward operates electively 7 days a week including Bank Holidays and has three distinct areas. Cedar Elective– 14 beds caring for Elective Orthopaedic, Orthoplastic and Neurosurgical patients with a variety of procedures being performed.
Rugby Ambulatory Orthopaedic Service (RAOS)– 12 Trolleys Operating 5 days a week for patients undergoing Primary Hip and Knee Arthroplasty with a focus on Short Stay surgery aiming for discharge where possible on the same day.
Cedar Trauma– 14 beds – Taking post-surgical transfers from the main site at UHCW 7 days a week enabling a continuation of their recovery and discharge planning.
Please note that a trainee advanced clinical practitioner will be considered if you do not possess qualification already. If appointed as a trainee you will be a band 7 until completion of all competencies alongside successful completion of MSc in advanced practice, where you will then progress to 8A.
The post holder will form part of the senior ward team ensuring patients are reviewed daily. They will be a caring, compassionate and committed practitioner whom, acting within their professional boundaries, will undertake clinical assessments, order diagnostic tests and interpret results and prescribe if appropriate. They will demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision-making and expert care supporting patients and staff within the ward area to discharge patients in a timely manner.
They will commit to demonstrating critical thinking whilst communicating and working collaboratively with the Consultant Surgical and Medical teams alongside Nurses, Therapists and Pharmacists to meet the needs of their patients whilst supporting the local delivery of policy and procedures and providing leadership to influence the delivery of high-quality care.
They will provide support to Junior members of staff and undertake reviews as requested of complex post-surgical wounds and assist in delivery of educational programs.
The post holder should be aware that there will be occasions where it will be necessary to travel to the main hospital site at UHCW for meetings, mandatory course attendance etc.

• Co-ordinate the care of Trauma and Orthopaedic patients throughout the care pathway with the multidisciplinary team and clinical services to ensure the effective management of this group of patients.

• Request and interpret relevant investigations to facilitate the development of the patient’s management plan.
• Proactively refer to other clinicians (own or other services) depending upon patients’ needs to deliver care beyond your limitations and scope of practice.
• Proactively initiate treatment plans for patients requiring intervention and treatment ensuring ethically based considerations.
• Proactively identify, diagnose, and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing long term conditions.
• Undertake relevant clinical procedures to facilitate patient care within the service, supported by the appropriate training and supervision.
• Assess, diagnose, prescribe (as per scope of practice and professional regulatory requirements), and review medications for therapeutic effectiveness in the context of acute/emergency illness/ chronic illness, considering any current treatment given including pre-existing medical conditions.
• Providing information and advice to patients on prescribed medication regimens, side-effects, and interactions ensuring compliance with evidence- based practice and national and practice protocols and within their scope of practice and professional regulatory body requirements.
• Integrates both pharmacological (as per scope of practice and professional regulatory requirements) and non-pharmacological treatments as appropriate into patient management plans.
• Document clearly all aspects of assessment, diagnosis, and management plan and present the findings, using the approved documentation framework.
• Facilitate shared decision making by discussing assessment outcomes with patients, carers, and other health care professionals, to enable patients to make informed decisions regarding treatment.
• Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service within a complex and challenging environment with often, conflicting priorities.
• Support patients, families, and carers to adopt health healthy lifestyles strategies and apply principles of self- care, alongside clinical management plans.
• Understand and apply safeguarding measures that support the identification of vulnerable adults and children and be aware of statutory child/ vulnerable patient’s health procedures and local guidance.
• Contribute to informed patient consent and act as patient advocate.
• Undertake delegated consent as appropriate and after successful completion of the relevant training and competencies.
• Report clinical incidents via Trust Datix reporting system.
• Deliver care via virtual and nurse led clinics
