Are you a chemotherapy trained nurse or are you interested in a career in cancer nursing? We have a band 6 nursing post available in our team.
We are a team of nurses providing Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and supportive therapies for patients at all stages of their cancer journey in day unit settings to both Oncology and Haematology Patients. This post is based at our West Middlesex site. as part of the Trusts ongoing development a newly built Chemotherapy unit is under construction and is due to open in 2025.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated nurses with an interest in Oncology/Haematology nursing. You will need to be experienced, reliable and have a flexible approach with a dynamic proactive leadership style. You will need sound up to date clinical skills.
The successful candidates must possess excellent communication skills, a high sense of professionalism and a strong belief in the value of teamwork.
Nurses within our Trust are expected to ensure that an individual programme of care is planned, implemented and evaluated for each patient within their own sphere of responsibility. They should work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care to the patients.
• First level NMC registration

• To be a member of the Haematology/oncology day unit Team at West Middlesex Hospital
• To ensure safe, effective delivery of chemotherapy and co-medications, and appropriate follow-up / monitoring for patients receiving chemotherapy according to recognised local and national chemotherapy and Joint Management Guidelines.
• Provide a range of supportive treatments in a day care unit, to patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological diseases.
• To support the Chemotherapy Nursing team with delivery of the educational programme for chemotherapy nurses and non-oncology specialist staff involved in the care of patients receiving chemotherapy
• To support the Operational Manager in the day-to-day management of the service and overall development of the nurse-led chemotherapy clinic service

Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
1. To manage a case load of patients within the nurse led chemotherapy service according to Joint Management Guidelines.
2. To demonstrate knowledge of relevant disease areas and anti-cancer medications used in specific disease sites.
3. To provide information and advice to patients and their carers regarding cancer and it’s treatment, including clear guidance on how to report problems and/or seek advice outside of clinic hours.
4. To undertake phlebotomy and cannulation, after appropriate training has been given and competency has been established.
5. To undertake venesection, after appropriate training and assessment has been given and competency established, as appropriate.
6. To ensure that all relevant treatment, care and investigations are carried out prior to the implementation of chemotherapy treatment and to complete all relevant documentation, including variances.
7. Establish effective communication links with patients, their carers and all staff working in the haematology and oncology multidisciplinary teams

Education and Learning
1. To promote patient/carer independence through the provision of relevant teaching and support.
2. To participate in and organise study days/education programmes to raise awareness of the holistic needs of patients.
3. To develop resource and teaching packs for use by patients and/or staff in the clinical and educational setting.
4. To ensure the provision of appropriate written information is available to patients and staff.
5. To participate in the Trust’s on-going educational programmes.
6. To evaluate the need for patient support groups within the Trust.
7. Liaise with other charities, organisations and agencies dedicated to Breast cancer ensuring patients, their families and carers are informed of the availability of existing support services.
Research Audit and Quality
1. To utilise up-to-date research findings in the delivery of patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
2. To participate as appropriate in relevant research studies and audit findings and disseminate these findings to clinical practice as appropriate in order to develop best practice.
3. To identify opportunities for nursing research within own specialist area and carry out nursing research appropriate to the speciality.
4. To regularly audit service including eliciting the views of patients, carers and professionals ensuring patient feedback is incorporated into developments in the service.
5. To attend relevant departmental and Directorate and network meetings relating to clinical governance and to contribute to the clinical governance agenda

1. To liaise with other members of the team to ensure that there is an efficient use of resources, human, financial and time.
