An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic Band 3 health care assistant to join our existing team working on the Palatine Ward.
In 2014 we celebrated the opening of the Palatine Ward, a joint collaboration between the Haematology and Transplant Unit and the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) service, providing treatment for haematological malignancies and TYAs with all types of cancer – the first of its kind to provide such a service.
As well as being the Primary Treatment centre for TYAs with cancer in the North West Region the ward is one of the largest centres in the country providing specialist haematology care for TYA and adult patients. We have a large Stem Cell Transplant Programme, performing over 120 transplants a year and successfully obtained JACIE re-accreditation in May 2016.
The ward also cares for patients under the age of 16 years requiring radioisotope treatment and provides a clinical area for phase 2 post general anaesthetic recovery of children having radiotherapy, cared for by our Paediatric nurses.
Band 3 HCAs will have the opportunity to work within a supportive environment, developing excellent skills and knowledge including the performing of clinical observations and understanding the NEWS scoring system. Our band 3 HCAs develop skills such as venepuncture for taking peripheral bloods and will access central lines – such as CVCs, PICCs and Ports. You will also be responsible for performing ECGS and providing holistic care to our patients. HCAs will be supported by the nursing and CPF teams and given the opportunity to undertake the Christie Care Certificate.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who have a genuine interest in working with young people with cancer, and with adults with haematology malignancies, ideally a band 3 or senior band 2 with hematology/oncology experience wanting to develop their skill set and knowledge.
